The next BYO has been posted, it's a fun game called MemSounds. It will test your memory by playing sounds in a sequence, then getting you to enter the sequence back into a keypad.

You can find the instructions over here: BYO

I love these handmade noise gadgets, each one looks and sounds different. The Noise Swash is from an etsy shop called BelieveInKarma and looks the part.

BelieveInKarma writes:

This is an instrument/effect pedal that I recently built. It is quite an eclectic instrument and produces a diverse array of sounds both on its own as well as when effecting another instrument. All of the knobs and switches may look confusing, but I will include a diagram on what each of the controls do. The controls are as follows:

* Swash: sweetspot heart of the noise circuit
* Noisegait: music-noise flow control
* Pregain: first stage gain
* Preclip: second stage diode clipping select
* Postgain: third stage gain
* Postclip: third stage clipping select
* Treble: sheering high-end
* Bass: rumbling low-end
* Low power: simulates low battery, each setting is a whole new swash...
* Self-oscillation: amount of internal feedback
* Self-osc stomp: kicks self-osc in/out (with LED)
* Volume: plenty of it!

Mammoth

This is another little gem I found on Etsy, its from a seller called kfarrell and its a tiny woolly mammoth that you can build. All the pieces are laser cut and the finished product only stands 3/4in tall.

From kfarrell's description:

Following in the footsteps of the Tinysaur, the Woolly Tiny is a miniature woolly mammoth skeleton. Completed, he stands about 3/4 an inch tall and an inch long. He's seen here storming my laptop, trying to get to the freezer.

You'll get one set of parts of a Woolly Tiny, which you can assemble using tweezers and a little bit of glue.

Woolly Tiny is cut out of oak tag on a 35 watt laser. I'm happy to take custom orders for laser cut things and if you live in the NYC area you can even come to the studio and say "FIRE THE LASER" before it goes off.

Yes I want to fire the laser.

I'm writing a series of articles on how to build basic electronics, the first is called NoiseTron. It gives details on how to build a small Picaxe powered stylus keyboard.

Another gadget from Etsy.

Rarebeasts writes:

The SwoofTronic SB is a small hand held electronic instrument that allows you to change the frequency, filter value and noise preset value of a basic sound wave.

This device consists of two small controller boxes joined by a cable, one controller goes in each hand and each controller has a light sensor in the top. As you let more light onto the left hand sensor you increase the frequency (pitch). As you let more light onto the right hand sensor you increase the value of the active filter on the middle stage. A switch built into the LED of the left hand piece changes the value of the final noise stage.
The 8 preset final stage values include:
1. None - Noise interference off
2. BasicOn - Noise on constant
3. Saw - Saw tooth interference
4. Sine - Rough sinewave pattern
5. OnOffSlow - Slow 50% duty cycle
6. OnOfffast - Fast 50% duty cycle
7. WaveSlow - Strobe with slow PWM
8. WaveFast - Strobe with fast PWM
